Remediation of ecological loads

Remediation of ecological loads

Ecological pollution often prevents further industrial or development activities. Former and existing industrial complexes are often burdened by problems of the past, particularly production processes that were not friendly to the environment. Our company specializes in comprehensive solutions to deal with old ecological loads.

Typical examples of ecologically contaminated sites are former industrial complexes that are no longer used for the original purpose. The old ecological loads mostly come from 1950-70s. Chemical plants often used excessive amounts of chemicals that are harmful for human health and got out of control. Such substances in dangerous concentrations then contaminated the rock environment and groundwater.

The most common types of contamination:

  • Contamination of buildings
  • Pollution of the rock environment
  • Contamination of groundwater

When we remove ecological loads, we always proceed in agreement with resolutions of the involved state authorities, particularly in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and the Czech Environmental Inspectorate. The main input documents for a correct execution of remediation works are an available analysis of risks on the contaminated location and a remediation project. The remediation activities are then performed based on specified limits and proposed remediation procedures.

Remediation phases:

  • Detailed investigation
  • Remediation in situ (on the polluted site)
  • Remediation ex situ (outside the contaminated site, e.g. relocation of polluted soil for biodegradation)
  • Post-remediation monitoring

Remediation of locations with ecological loads requires a number of accompanying activities. Those activities make it possible to further specify the remediation procedures, to evaluate the current measurement, and to model future scenarios that are used for continual updating of the remediation works.

The most important monitored parameters include:

  • Collection and analysis of soil and groundwater samples
  • Mathematical modeling of groundwater flow
  • Continual monitoring of contamination levels

Subsequently, we perform post-remediation monitoring, with the objective of ensuring the success of the remediation measures and the sustainability of the achieved pollution target limits in the groundwater and rock environment.

Our remediation works include drilling operations, collection of soils and water samples, and laboratory analyses. We also provide technical surveillance services and supervise the remediated locations.
